How do I make my site searchable by search engines? I have put my name and occupation in the header, but my doodlekit site does not come up when I type these words into Yahoo or Google.

Your web address is usually something you should not be concerned about people searching for - if they have your web address, they will just go to it, not search for it. What you want to come up on searches for is relevant content - what your website is about. The fastest way to get your site crawled by a Search Engine is to post some links to it from other websites. The more creditable those sites are, the better the link quality to your website.

i originally didnt sign up with a search engine optimisation

but i just went onto orangesoda.com (i think it is) i signed up and i automatically become on google

Yes, you have to pay for that. Signing up with them will do a lot towards getting your website to show up on Search Engines.

If you cannot afford their services, then start doing some simple link building (linking from quality websites to your website) using key terms you think people would search on to find your website. This is a good way to get picked up by Search Engines and to improve your ranking.
