First of all, can anyone who views my blog make comments?

Secondly, Can I disable viewers ability to make comments on a blog? There have been innappropriate comments, like spam, left on my page.

Thanks,

Yes, the point of a Blog is so that anyone can comment on it. Unfortunately, spammers are always going to try and abuse them. Doodlekit puts in a lot of protection to keep out bots (automated spammers) but there are spammers that get paid for manual entry - which there is nothing you can do to fight that except to monitor your blogs and delete them.

You can also 'lock' you blog posts. If you edit your blog post, and there is a checkbox to lock out comments from others.

Hi Heath,

Follow up question....I've since disabled comments on the blog. The comments are not being posted any more on the site, however I am getting literally hundreds of spam comments being sent to my email. It goes into my spam folder (as I've marked it "spam") but I am afraid that if someone contacts me through my website it will be sent also to my spam folder, only to get lost amongst hundreds of meaningless comments. Not sure what to do.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks, Amber

The email sent form your contact form should be easy to set up as 'not spam' in your email provider tools. The nice thing about the contact form is that it hides your actual email address (which you hook up through the main Settings page) so spammers can't get a hold of it. You can always change the email address to which to send the form data.

On you website, you might want to copy the content from your first post and just delete it and recreate it. You have over 300 spam comments which will pull down your website credibility to Search Engines. The only way to get rid of them all quickly is to just delete the blog post.
