Setting up a membership site

Sat Feb 06, 2010 @ 03:30AM

I'm interested in making one of my sites a monthly membership site, meaning that to get access beyond the home page (or whatever designated entry page), a visitor would have to become a member and pay a monthly membership fee. The topic of my site, move-tutor.com is household moving, so most members might only subscibe for one month, some a few months.

I understand how to designate "users" through the admin area. And I see where visitors can "register." But, how would I incorporate a pay model?

Is shopping cart the way I would go about doing this?

Thanks!

Currently we don't have any sort of reoccurring charging system. However, we will be implementing one in the future. We have had several requests for this and we have decided it would be a good feature to add.

What about a one-time fee, as opposed to re-occurring fee? Is it possible to do like a life-time membership for a one-time fee?

Yeah, you can just set that up through the shopping cart tool. A one time fee would be easy. You could still sell any length of membership you want, but you would have to set up some sort of external reminder if you wanted it to be a reoccurring charge.
