Possible to remove date/author on blog entries sidebar?

Wed Jul 23, 2008 @ 04:00PM

Is it possible to remove the date and author from the blog entries and forum posts on the sidebar?

I'd like just to feature the title of the blog entry / forum post and have that hyperlinked.

It looks repetitive, especially when you have a single author on a blog ...

Let me know if there's a work around for this. Thx. Dave

Dave -

I have done just that on my blog - have a look at www.vernonchalmers.com/blog.

Think you need to be on one of the Pay Plans. In my case (Business Plan) I have registered a couple of names as Privileged Users and also registered another Administrator.

You will be able to change the dates as well.

I'm on a business plan so I'm glad to hear that change can be made. I'll have to go in and have a look and figure out how to do it.

Can you possibly point me in the right direction VC? Thanks for the reply.

Dave -

All you need to do is create an new User, either as an Administrator or as a Privilege User. Once done log in and go to the blog and make a new entry. The blog author / entry will be in the current registered name.

You can then log in with your default Admin detail and edit as you wish - you will also be able to change the date / time stamp. This you will find in the content editor.

If you prefer another name - just delete the blog entry. Nothing really that can go wrong.

On my website you will see there are at least 2 different authors - adding to the blog as logged in Administrators. You may also provide someone with Privilege status. This you set when you create new Users. Just practice - if you do not like delete the User.

Why are you still on the Doodlekit domain if you are on the Business Plan? You should have a stand-alone www domain?

Vernon, thanks for the instructions ... I'll have to try that out.

I'm still on doodlekit domain as the site I'm working on is just a spec ... if/when it goes live, I already have a domain and I'll point it to the new site.

Thanks again for the heads up.

Vernon, I see how you created a workaround for this issue on your site.

It's a good sidestep, but I would like to remove the date and author in the left hand sidebar in my blog...

I don't see how one can do this with the current setup.

Ben/Heath: This would be a fix I'd love to see. The only thing necessary to flow into the blog sidebar are the entry titles and those should be hyperlnked.

In nearly all widgets, sidebars or navs on virtually any site, just the headlines flow in. I think this should be the default for doodlekit blogs.

Having the author name/date hyperlinked doesn't really do users any good ... especially when there's only one author ... you just see the same name over 5X.

Can you add this to your list of improvements?

Dave,

I think you are quite correct that one cannot disable author / date. When I was the only author it was an issue, but with more associates coming online on my site it is useful to be able to differentiate entries between authors (and dates).

I agree that if you are one author that there should be functionality to disable author name.
