Have an Idea? Get it out there now!

Our whole economy is based on Ideas. Most of the products you use today came from somebody saying "Gee, my life would be easier if someone made a ...". That's the thing though, and Idea is just an Idea until somebody executes it.
When you get a good Idea you tend to protect it, keep it close. You tend to nurture it until it's ready to be unleashed. Sometimes this can be helpful, but what's happening while you're waiting? Someone else is getting the domain name you want, or building up a bigger email list, or getting better search engine ratings.
Even though you're Idea might not be ready, that's no reason to stop you from preparing. So what can you do while your idea percolates? Start generating some Buzz.
Create a teaser website, something really simple with a mysterious title. "Are You Ready to For the Next Revolution in Donuts?" Don't oversell yourself, but give them enough to be interested. Then put a simple E-Mail form on the site.
Send this to friends, colleagues, trade-blogs, whoever. If you get it to enough people, you're sure to generate a decent email list. Now you'll have a list of people that have given you permission to market your new product to, right when you're ready.
This is just one example of getting your presence on the market right away. Any business is going to take some time to get started, so why not get started now?
